What materials does CELL-O GREEN film consist of?
- CELL-O GREEN air cushions contain recycled PE. The cushions are 100% recyclable.
- Our cushions are not OXO- or OXI-degradable. OXO- or OXI-degradable films are standard films with an additive and allow the film to embrittle. It does not have any effect on improving the carbon footprint of the product.
- Our film is also not made from starch based products, which are both expensive and have to be renewed. Starch based products will biodegrade, yet pulls from our food supply and contributes to high food prices and food shortages.
How do the GREEN FAMILY branded products help the environment?
- By source reduction: during production we use lesser virgin material resulting in lower pressure on natural resources.
- It is easily reusable and recyclable
- It is non-toxic, it contains no chemical additives or heavy metals
- Easy to fit in the closed loop systems and waste collecting programs
- Lighter than paper; resulting in lower package weight
- Positively improving Carbon Footprint *
- It’s in line with the Cradle to Cradle principle**
* What do you mean by carbon footprint?
Carbon footprint is a measure of the amount of greenhouse gases produced through burning fossil fuels for the manufacturing, transportation use and disposal of a product.
** What do you mean by Cradle to Cradle?
This means that a product in the very beginning has been designed to have a life after being used. By using the right materials and waste collection systems, a product (or raw material) can be used over and over again. So waste becomes food. A product designed in compliance with the Cradle to Cradle principles doesn’t claim any new natural resources anymore. It is truly sustainable, environmental and responsible.
Will recycled content affect the performance of the GREEN FAMILY products?
No, there is no negative influence on the protective performance of the packaging products.
Is there a shelf life on the GREEN FAMILY materials?
The recycled content does not impact the shelf life of the products.
What is the offspring of the recycled material in the GREEN FAMILY products?
We are using 3 sources:
- Our own production waste
- Industrial waste, collected by waste management companies.
- Post-consumer waste, collected by waste management companies.
Our quality department measures continuously the quality of the sources before it enters our production facilities.
Do GREEN FAMILY products contain any toxic materials?
We only have a partnership with selected suppliers which are operating in full compliance with REACH regulations. This ensures us that we deliver valuable products without any toxic, hazardous or heavy metal content.
How can I dispose the GREEN FAMILY products?
- First try to re-use the product as much as possible
- Please deflate air cushions before disposal by cutting them. This gives a residual volume of only 2%.
- Consult your local community regulations for collecting waste opportunities.
What are the effects on the environment versus paper?
It is generally assumed that paper is more environmentally friendly than plastic. A study where paper and PE are being compared shows in fact the opposite!
When comparing 16.000 meters of both Polyethylene against Kraft paper, the outcome on three area’s shows that using PE is in the best interest for the environment. Not only lesser energy is used during production, also in terms of air and water pollution, PE does not pollute the environment as much as paper does.
